JOYA Team is a young developing company, and as we develop and grow, we encounter questions that arise naturally, which are signs for us that we're ready to go to the next level. So, we had an internal drive that started a process of defining our Vision. The question that we asked ourselves was:
Where and What do we want to be in 10 years from now?
We felt that it's essential to take some time to work on this question and define our vision together. We also felt that we needed some professional guidance to help us define our path more clearly.
That led us to work with Amnon Shaked, a professional CEO and C-level Strategy Consultant. The process eventually helped us to define our Vision and our Values.

Customer Story about Professionalism
Needless to say, professionalism is one of our core fundamental values. We want to bring up a story that shows the reflection of our professional authority and its ripple effects.
We worked with a startup company consulting them on their concept development, and design strategy as well as providing our engineering services. In parallel to the prototype development, they were also working intensely to secure funding to continue their development work.
So, they took part in a competition for a funding grant from an Accelerator program. The competition was very tough, many startups presented their ideas and gave their polished pitches. The highly professional tech judges' team was asking many tough in-depth questions and there was a very close competition.
And then an interesting thing happened: the top judge wanted to know what the startup confidence of the idea feasibility was based on. The startup CEO mentioned their collaboration with JOYA Team, stating that JOYA Team evaluated the idea and was providing their professional team support including the feasibility study that this concept can also be miniaturized to the required scale and price point. When the judges heard that JOYA Team was behind the development, it was evident that they know us well and value our professional authority. This made an immense impact, giving the judges the confidence regarding this startup success chances and eventually caused them to favor them over other competitors, granting them the winning award.
Learning this positive effect that our name made is yet another reassuring sign for JOYA Team making a difference.

We practice this value all the time, because we believe that by creating value, we help our customers succeed in their journey. One of our most favorite customer stories is our immense contribution in FDA submission and clearance of a first in the world surgery assisting AR device. (read the full Project Story in our blog)
As many stories often do, this story started from a failure. The company that developed this AR device was the first in the world to bring this innovation of AR in medical applications. The device included many sub-systems, hardware, algorithms, software, everything had to fit together and work as a whole. The project was very intense and complicated, so they didn't want to develop the optics in-house, thus it was based on off-the-shelf optical engines.
When the papers were ready and submitted to the FDA committee, they got many technological questions on the optics part, that they didn't know how to tackle. The optics and optical metrology were not their primary field, and they didn't even know who to turn to with this kind of task. Not being able to clear the FDA meant that they couldn't enter the US market, which was their primary goal.
Then destiny interfered and they met the JOYA Team that saw in them a potential customer and had a meeting in their offices on a minor task, not aware that they could help with the actual bottleneck issue. It was a match and both sides understood quickly that cooperation is a win-win for both sides.
Fast-forward to the FDA approval, this seems like a mission impossible: to get all the testing done and documentation ready, with nearly impossible schedules, building the testing setups, getting the equipment needed, the entire team working around the clock, including holidays and weekends... This can only be done when you possess the expertise, professionalism, dedication, feeling the customer's pain and being there for them full power.
FDA cleared; market doors open - this is what creating value is about.

We feel that when we build a personal friendship with a customer, a new type of partnership starts. Many obstacles fall, new opportunities are created, we act as champions for one another, and this feels wonderful.
This customer I want to talk about started as a regular LinkedIn connection, then turned into a potential customer when we had a Zoom meeting, and then turned to personal connection and friendship when we met face to face, ate lunch together, had very deep personal conversations and discovered so many values that we share. We were willing to help at the beginning without pay as much as we could, because we just wanted to work together and help to bring their vision to life.
We faced many obstacles on the way: we worked to help in manufacturing the product that was already designed by another contractor, the designs files were a mess, the resources were short, and yet we helped with the production drawings, consulting the manufacturer to make the product manufacturable finally going to market after a long struggle. This is in general not a service that we provide, but these all didn't matter. Our friend needed our help!
Today, after we also designed the next generation of their brilliant product, provided a span of our services along the way, we also met on many occasions, attended a conference together, and gave a talk together. We enjoy the fruits of this friendship as we engage in projects that are based on this product as a platform for many new exciting applications, things yet not seen.

Professionals strive to bring their value in the area of their expertise, where they can shine fully. Curious professionals are often drawn to new areas, new fields, things that have never been done before, they feed their professionalism with innovation and inventive power of exploration.
In this particular story, we've had our curiosity fed working with extraordinary team of innovators, that revolutionized the field of Biological Research with Temporal Cytometry: a company that's called TeraCyte. As they created the technology that did not exist before, they needed simulation tools that had to be developed on the go, with continuous validation and iterative learning.
We took the challenge to create a virtual prototype of their platform in close collaboration with their technology lead and their lab team. We simulate optical properties of their proprietary chip geometry, and we also mimic the biological cells' structure including their sub-micron elements, with constant iterative feedback from the real image. This task was accompanied by taking risks, uncertainties and lack of data, but in the end, we could help them optimize their platform based on simulations. We can change the chip structure, add or remove elements and see the image change without altering the actual hardware. This is priceless when each hardware iteration means investment of tens of thousands of dollars and many months of precious time.

We feel the greatest sense of achievement and value when we manage to bring forth our full spectrum of knowledge and expertise. This is most pronounced when we develop an AR system from the very beginning of understanding the user need and the use-case until the stage of building prototypes and transferring the process to production.
One of our customers had a project just like this. The amazing thing is to see how each member of JOYA Team fits into this process in the right time for the specific task where his impact is highest, we transfer the stick from one to the other just like relay race runners.
We started from System engineering task of learning the specific use-case, end-users questionaries, user testing and requirements validation using various test setups
This was followed by spec formation, defining key design parameters and forming the requirements
Then we performed the technology trade-off to fit the optimal technology and architecture based on the key parameters and constraints
We performed the preliminary optical design, integrating the electro-optics as part of the design
Continued to non-imaging design, including simulation and analysis of all non-imaging system parameters
Covered the detailed optical design including tolerance analysis and overall, as-built system performance evaluation
Defined the assembly and calibration process providing the requirements for Opto-mechanical design
Worked in cooperation with opto-mechanical designer, performing iterative opto-mechanical and product design, including the input for optical elements drawings
Continued with cooperation and support of the optical elements manufacturers to optimize the design-to-fabrication
We engineered the assembly and testing process, including building the tools and equipment for the process
Then when the elements were manufactured, we assembled the prototypes, performed calibrations, measurements and testing
This infrastructure was built for the customer, so we also transferred the whole process to their personnel, enabling the production inhouse when we gradually stepped out
This entire process was more than a year long, but the efficiency was incredible. Since then, we had new recurring projects with this customer, so it's safe to say that the impact we made was enormous.
